[ Yuya's a weird kid, whereas Kano can't see what's so great about running or eating more than two spoonfulls of ice cream at a time. ]

Ehh, it can't be fun, though? It's repetitive, and boring! Don't you think he'd have more fun and exciting if it were running, but with a goal? Like, maybe he's being chased by a swarm of bees?

Nobody would like being chased by bees. [Before he gets any ideas.]

And the goal is to be healthy and feel good? He does Judo too, he's really strong. [Yuya rolls his shoulder before using his hip to nudge the desk into place.]

Anyway, you finding it boring doesn't mean it is, it just means you don't like it. It's normal for people to have different interests.

[ Dresser and desk in place, that just leaves the beds, which Kano motions for Yuya to help him with. AKA do almost all the work. Just gotta shove them together. ]

Hm... I guess that's how it is!! I think it'd be more fun getting chased by bees than having to climb endless stairs, but that just makes me strange? Fighting and all that, I have no need for it, so I'll let you and Bonbon handle that~

[Yuya pauses when he puts his hand to the bed.] What about self defense? You were already kidnapped once, and it'll be even more dangerous when Nightfall happens.

Aah, well...

[ Kidnapping was... He's not going to say anything about it, how he and Adelaide mutually agreed to never talk about it and so nobody gets to know the full details of all of that. It doesn't matter!! It's in the past. ]

I won't be in the front lines, so that doesn't matter? Besides, if it comes to a war, there's nothing to be gained from kidnapping me. It's not like I know anything that can be tortured out of me, and it's not like people would be fool to rush in and get me back.

[Yuya just stares at Kano for a moment, shoulders sinking. Like that's really what matters, and he hopes Kano doesn't think it's some battlefield that he can stand far enough away from to avoid. Daemons will go after the vulnerable. Those who can't fight are at even more risk.

But wasn't Yuya here so he could be the one to do that? So that he could carry the burden for his friends?

In the silence he reaches to, and tries to grab Kano's hand with a gentle squeeze.]

I'm definitely a fool that rushes in. [He smiles genuinely despite that.] So try and keep yourself safe so I don't have to, okay?

[ He thought he was being convincing, but Yuya's even more of a fool than he thought, taking his hands like that and Kano can only let them hang limply in Yuya's grasp. It was a mistake to make friends, and it was an even greater mistake making friends with Yuya. He's going to get Yuya killed someday, especially at the rate he's going. ]

If you know that, you should also know better! I'll do my best to keep myself alive, but I'll also be counting on you~

Yeah. [He knows it'll get worse, and nothing they do can stop that. So he definitely needs to get strong enough before then.

He smiles warmly.] You can trust me! I'm not going to stop getting stronger, and I'll protect you.

[Nana, too, Gongenzaka and all his other friends.

He lets go, giving Kano a moment to get on position opposite to the bed before starting to push it in place.]

[ He says that, and meanwhile Kano will die two to three times this month alone, but Yuya doesn't know that. Kano's going to almost kill Yuya two or three times this month too, so really, it's like they're even?

Kano goes over to his side of the bed and leans his weight against the frame. Ugh. His side barely moves, as Yuya's slides into place. He's definitely weak, and spends too much time strolling around scheming instead of going out on runs or lifting weights. Doesn't matter. ]

Come here and help me with my side too~

[ How in the world did he even manage to rearrange the furniture in the first place?? Mysteries. ]

[Yuya assumes Ellie did it.]

That's awful, Kano. [Yuya shakes his head, but he comes around and uses his shoulder to push the other side in place.] Are you having fun?

[ Ellie could definitely singlehandedly rearrange all the furniture all by herself, but like most things in his life, it was something set in place far before she'd arrived here in the academy, from the furniture to the hidden spaces under the floor and in his desk, there's a lot he's grateful he had a single bedroom for all these years.

Still, the help is nice, and he's grateful for that too, telling aside to let Yuya do all the work, because it's not like Kano would be any help and would just be in the way. ]

Yep, it's fun~ How 'bout you?

I think we should get some ice cream after. [Yuya winks, adjusting the bed before walking to the other bed to slide it into place as well. This is probably close enough to the middle.]

[ Ice cream and happiness, huh... ]

With waffle cones? And rainbow sprinkles??

And at least two flavors! [Yuya holds up his fingers for emphasis.]

And those bright red cherries that taste like cough syrup~!!!

Right! [Yuya scoots the bed over, each corner, letting out a breath after and stretching.] That's how you want it?

[ Cough syrup is gross and sprinkles taste like chalk and Kano likes waffle cones more than he likes ice cream and doesn't know if he can stomach two entire scoops but ]

Yep, that's it~ Come on, let's go! Your treat, right~?

[Yuya laughs.] Sure, my treat.

[Because he was just going to go to the station on campus, which is free, but Kano can call it what he likes. He moves to the door to open it first, and holding it open for Kano.]

[ It's the thought that counts!! He makes his way out of the door and locks it behind him before heading down the hall, hopping down the stairs two at a time, outside and— ]

Oh, yikes, it sure is hot, now, huh?? Is it spring?

[ He missed all of April... It doesn't really hit him until he steps outside, seeing everything coming into bloom. Winter is over. ]

[Yuya follows right beside him. He spares the guards a glance and a wave, whether they follow or not, but after that his attention is on Kano.]

I told you! It's May first now.

[ It's hard to refute that with the sun shining on his face, leading Kano to tug his hood over his head to block out the sun, rather than hiding his face like he tends to do all winter. A black jacket and tall boots are going to make the summer brutal, but he'll continue wearing this all summer and suffer. It's definitely ice cream weather. ]

...So you did~ I hope the month passes quickly, without incident~

[ He hates May. Too many bad memories. ]

[Maybe if Kano himself didn't process to cause chaos this May.

Yuya laces his fingers behind his head.] I think we've already exceeded out incident quota, anyway. And it won't be much longer before the summer vacation.

[ Maybe he got fed up and decided that if he had to suffer, so does everybody else, idk. ]

Haha, I thought that quota got filled all the way back in January~ I tried real hard, making sure we'd have a peaceful rest of the year~

[ As if him front-loading trouble will clear out the rest of the year. Spring's just started, but summer is something he still looks forward to- there's still the charm of summer vacation, days at a time where he can lounge around in his room doing nothing and that's to be expected, sweltering summer days droning with insects and, best of all, the campus clears out as everybody else goes home. ]

If that's the case, I wonder why it keeps following you. [A pause.] And Toki. You two make me look really well behaved in comparison...

UHH, Toki is a trillion times worse than me??

[ Toki is the one who keeps almost dying. Kano's just... the one who almost kills people, the one who causes trouble instead of attracting it. It's different. ]
