[ It takes him around that much time to fall asleep but-- alright, he'll take what he can get. Thirty minutes, three hours, he'll let Yuya time it. ]

[Yuya pulls his legs up and bundles up tightly on himself. Truthfully, even ten minutes is too much and eventually Yuya gets up to just pace around the cave to keep warm. He's absolutely keeping time, and in thirty minutes he crouches beside Kano.]

Hey.

[ Thirty minutes is not enough. In the time that Yuya had gone and walked away, Kano had curled up on his side, hood bunched up under his neck and head as a make-shift pillow. He mumbles something and pulls the hood out and over his face, and turns around the other way. Five more minutes, mom.

When he's quiet and asleep, he looks much younger, more like Shuuya who'd spent all those lazy afternoons in Yuya's room, curled up on the bed next to Kuroko, and like with Shuuya, old cuts and scars are apparent on Kano's face and hands where he needs to be awake to cast the illusion to hide them. ]

[So he can't maintain his illusions in his sleep, huh?

Yuya had suspicions that he was hiding under them frequently, and maybe stealing a glance under them when Kano hasn't explicitly shown them is unfair. But... he also trusted Yuya at least enough to actually fall asleep beside him. And he's sure Kano knows that would happen.

He's quiet for a moment, only drawing his gaze over some of the wounds without touching. And then he shivers, and he's reminded why he's not really up for staying out here for hours and then they'll both get frostbite, because a hoodie isn't much better.

So he makes an executive decision, and scoots on his knees by Kano so he can shuffle an arm around his torso and under his knees. If he braces himself, he can haul Kano into his arms while he rises to his knees at once and carry him in his arms.]

[ It's inconvenient, but it's never been a problem when he's fortunately had a single bedroom for all these years, long sleeves and a hood casting a shadow over his face if he really needs to catch a nap outside.

He gets by with just naps most of the time, too, and he's a light sleeper— he can ignore voices fine knowing it's just Yuya, but to actually be touched, he startles violently and lashes out and kicks straight up at whatever's in the way, torso or nose or whatever. ]

[And then Yuya gets kicked in the stomach.]

Augh--! [Yuya topples back into the snow unceremoniously, rolling over and wrapping his arms around his waist. Okay, ow.]

[ Nobody is allowed to say that Kano is completely useless in a fight anymore. He's just sort of useless, because he looks just as surprised as anybody else that the tip of his boot actually connected with anything, and he sits up and blinks dumbly at Yuya and if this were a real fight, this is when he would be knocked out.

It's around here where the guards come filing in, spears raised in warning and questioning glances exchanged between Kano and Yuya.

Kano stares for a moment, and then flops back down. He's going to back to sleep. ]

[Yuya sita up with a disgruntled expression at Kano, before he slowly looks up at the guards.

And then he makes a shooing gesture with his hand. Go, go, there's nothing to see here. What's being a teen boy if not wrestling (so Yuya's heard, because Gongenzaka would never do it with him).]

I was going to let you sleep on the way back, but you can wake up now.

[ Maverick and his roommate are all about the wrestling life, not Kano. He just wants to sleeeepp-- ]

Haha, was that what that was? You were going to give me a piggyback ride?

[ NOT A PRINCESS CARRY, THANKS ]

[A princess carry was the best way to distribute the weight if he's asleep!!] Maybe I'll throw you over my shoulder instead.

[Yuya's thin, so that'd definitely be pushing it but now he'd try just for posterity.]

[ Kano laughs, because that's something he wants to see Yuya try, even though the princess carry really would be the most convenient for Yuya and most comfortable for Kano. ]

The rumored potato sack carry~!! Yeah, let's do that!

[Yeha, okay. Yuya gets out so he can walk around to Kano's front, dropping to one knee and leaning over so his shoulder is dropped. He holds one hand out, waiting for Kano to get up just enough that Yuya can grab him by his hoodie to haul him forward and just slump him over his arm.]

[ Nah, man, potato sacks can't move. Kano remains lying on the ground, with this smug smile on his face. ]

[Yuya raises a brow.] Don't kick me again.

[If Kano's going to make him do all the work, don't be worse! So Yuya moves instead to put his arms around Kano's waist and haul him over his shoulder himself. And assuming that goes uninterrupted and he's got him slack over, Yuya will wrap one arm around Kano's legs and grip his hand tightly to his pants before hefting them up to his feet. With a little swaying, but Yuya spreads his stance quickly to keep them from falling.]

[ Haha, god, it's as awkward for Kano as it is for Yuya, but he obediently stays as limp as possible and does not kick. The guards sure are giving them weird looks for this, as if wondering whether Yuya is in the process of hurtling Kano off a cliff, but Kano just gives them a little wave from his position over Yuya's shoulder. ]

Is it alright? Can you walk? Hey! Instead of going to the gym, you can just haul me around campus! What do you think?

[Yuya puffs up with pride that he's successfully balanced on his shoulder, full of false confidence that he'll make it to the campus like this.

He turns slowly and then totters out of the cave, giving the guards a smile.] We're going back now.

[Back down the path! More slowly, and with a little swaying, but right now Yuya's got this. And Kano has weird friends.]

See, I can walk just fine! Why do you want me to haul you around instead of going to the gym?

[ He's got the absolute best friends. But yeah, they're weird. ]

It's a win-win, isn't it? You get a full body workout, and I get a personal chauffeur?

[Yuya laughs.] To where? Your classes? That's a bad excuse, you don't want to be on my shoulder for an hour.

[He'll bruise his stomach, probably...]

[ Kano laughs too, which is a mistake, because Yuya's shoulders are bony and cut into his stomach and it doesn't make for a very fun experience. ]

Nah, I figured I already missed a month of classes, didn't I? Gonna cut my losses this semester~ [ And not go for the last 2-3 months, as if he had any intentions of going in the first place ]

But other places too, that you'd be really helpful for! Like the Quad: there's sooooo many stairs!

[Kano asked for this.] You're not just trying to make me spend more time with you?

[He says it lightly, a joke, his gaze drifting down to make sure his footing is steady as they make it down the mountain. As long as that's good, he doesn't have to cling too hard to Kano so he doesn't fall.]

Is it working?

[ He returns the joke, maybe, but keeps his eyes down at the ground as well, just in case he needs to hop off before they topple over off balance, especially in the snow where one's footing isn't exactly the best. It'll be fine, he thinks, with the guards coming in a bit closer to flank the pair of them, making sure that neither of them dies going down the mountain— why can't they just be normal kids hanging out in their bedrooms, why mountain trips?? ]

No. [A beat.] Texting me would work better.

[Like he really needs an excuse, because Kano's a friend and he squeezes every minute he can with all of them. Although, he supposes he should be the one inviting Kano out instead. Now, he thinks he knows enough to guess places he'll like to go.]

[ They're surprisingly quiet and solitary places, bedrooms and mountains and rooftops, preferring to hang out with people one-on-one in a small, enclosed space than he does large groups in a crowd. It's safer that way, more comfortable, and less exhausting. Being followed by guards all the time is exhausting. ]

...how fast do you think you can run?

[Yuya's pace slows a little, considering that.] Fast.

[He has a guess why Kano's wondering, and a sneaky grin slowly spreads across his face.] But Odd-Eyes is faster.

[How about he calls them an express dragon ride?]

[ Kano grins in response to that, because it looks like Yuya gets exactly what he's asking. ]

He~h, I'd like to see that! Give yourself a little rest too, for all your hard work~
