Ah, how 'bout this! I've got rope I was intending to secure onto Odd-Eyes if possible, but what if we use it as a tether and have him pull use along behind him? I promised Toki the first ride, so we gotta keep this hush, hush~

[ In that way... he just has to steer, and let Odd-Eyes do all the work of making the bike move ]

... You can't actually ride it can you. [Is this what they really call an impulse purchase.] Okay, if pulling it doesn't work then Odd-Eyes can carry it.

Shut up, Yuya, I can too ride it!!!

[ He's been whining about motorbikes for months, it's absolutely not an impulse purchase! He just also never had the intention of actually buying one, or learning how to ride a bike. ]

We'll try pulling first, and if that doesn't work, Odd-Eyes can wheel us along! You'll side with me, right, Yu~ya??!?!?!

[ Don't let him die on there alone ]

You mean will I sit on the bike with you? [Odd-Eyes is probably safer, but also he's not going to get them killed even pulling them around. They just might get some really sorry bruises if it tips over.

He holds his hands up.] Fine, fine, but it'll be a lot cooler when you learn to drive it for real. Remember that!

I'm going to drive it for real— everybody starts somewhere, okay???

[ Lay off him!!!! But he's relieved that Yuya will sit with him, even just to have his presence there. ]

I'm going to go pay for it, okay? Here, here, take the rope and let Odd-Eyes know the plan!

Sure. [Yuya takes the rope, exiting the store whole Kano pays. He hands Odd-Eyes one end and explains the plan, which mostly he just regards incredulously but dragging it is better than having to carry it. Like usual, this seems like a weirdly one-sided conversation since Odd-Eyes can only growl verbally.]

[ Agreeable growls, hopefully, not a secret plan to haul Kano off a cliff at the earliest convenience. Kano trusts Yuya to trust Odd-Eyes, so he "pays" for his bike and signs his name on the license and whatever official documents go into buying a motorbike. Does he want vehicle insurance? Yes, he definitely needs this. Does he want life insurance? Yeah, why not. He will go home later and write a will and leave everything to Ellie in the case that he dies in a motor vehicle accident. ]

Ta-da~!!! It's done, it's done~ Is everything set? Where do you want to go first?!

[Don't commit money fraud on things that have your name and are registered, Kano...

Yuya waits for the bike to be wheeled close enough before he starts tying the rope to it as secure as he can.]

First? We're not taking it back to campus? [Odd-Eyes grumbles while Yuya gently pats him. There there.] If we're being pulled along, it has to be far enough to be worth it, right? Are you hungry?

[ It's cash... The transaction was caught on tape, they can't prove anything after it goes into the salesperson's wallet. ]

I was thinking somewhere wide open, with lots of steep hills! Like the mountains!! But we can go into town, too, if you want to grab something to eat first!

Aren't the mountains kind of risky...? [Maybe don't destroy it the first day he got it.]

Maybe we can go the other way, down the road out of Soleil. It's flatter but we'll have scenery, right?

Oh, out into the countryside? We could do that...

[ It never occurs to Kano to leave the confines of the campus and its surrounding town and mountains, what with his movements restricted all the time thanks to being Contracted. The guards aren't around today, but they're always around somewhere, keeping an eye on him. It's exhausting. ]

Yeah, let's do that!

[Yuya thinks their current elevated presence is unfair. It wasn't like Kano ran away, exactly, so while they have the chance to roam free he's inclined to take advantage of it.

Yuya grins wider, waiting for Kano to get on the bike first before sliding on behind him. This is, he's realizing, much smaller than an actual motorcycle or Odd-Eyes. He scrambles a bit before grabbing the edge of the seat as best as he can for support.] Okay! Odd-Eyes can take us that way, and we'll just see where it takes us.

Yessssss~ Let's go~!!!

[ Running away is literally the most benign thing Kano can do, which is the only reason the guards don't go up in arms over this little outing in particular. Kano gets onto the bike and slides all the way forward so that he's barely on the edge of the seat and is mostly standing, letting Yuya take the actual seat if he wants. Presumably, they'll slide back once they get moving, so it's best Yuya gets as much space as he can while he can. ]

[They probably will, but Yuya scoots forward so he feels more secure on it. He looks down, knocking the kickstand back as their feet brace to keep it standing up and wordlessly urges Odd-Eyes to start moving.

So he does, with a slow walk at first that gets progressively faster. give them the chance to work out keeping it upright.]

[ Haha, this is terrifying. They should have helmets? They should probably have helmets. Kano flips his hood over his head and hopes Yuya has enough hair on his head to provide proper cushioning if needed. ]

Faster, Odd-Eyes, faster!! We can't fall sideways if we're going forward— that's how physics works!!

[ or something ]

[Odd-Eyes grunts, but he obliges and speeds up. Provided they keep their weight center, it is easier to keep it upright when they're moving quickly. It would be even easier with the actual motor propelling it, but that's neither here nor there.

Yuya, at least, can ride a normal bike and he nudges Kano's side with one of his hands.] Stay in the middle! You have to balance it with your weight!

Hm? What?

[ Kano turns around to look at Yuya— which throws their center of balance off centered, but that's why Yuya is here, to be the counterbalance. ]

[That's not how it works at all. Yuya tips a little, precariously so as he loses his grip on a bump and yelps. He flails a bit before he leans forward to reach around Kano so he can get a grip on the handles himself to put more of his weight into the center. His chin bumps Kano's shoulder briefly, clicking his teeth together.] Face forward and sit up straight, Kano!

[ It's how it works and why there should be two people at all times, or at least a side car next to the motorcycle so the entire vehicle has more than just two wheels to balance on. Kano also gives a yelp when the bike jolts, but scooting up just has him slide off the front of the seat and-- no, maybe this will be better, this way he can sort of crouch there with his feet still secured and make himself smaller and Yuya will be able to see over his head and tell him what to do. ]

I can do one or the other, Yuya!!! Think maybe we need to go faster?? Don't give it time to wobble??!?!?

You're supposed to be the one steering! [It's not supposed to be one or the other!!] Just--listen to me, it's a bike so you have to keep it steady with your weight! Try and keep it in the center!

[And not even faster, this is fast enough that sounds like a recipe for disaster. At least they have a long path ahead of them.]

[ If they're in any danger of colliding into a building, he trusts Odd-Eyes to haul them up in the air, their lives are in your hands, bro!!

It's hard, though, getting a crash course in riding a bike when he really doesn't want to crash it, doing his best to lean this way and that except he keeps over correcting and the bike wobbles worse than ever. ]

Won't it be easier if I just lean right and you lean left??? We weigh about the same, don't we??????

No?! [Yuya's no science guy but he has a better understanding of physics, at least.] It's harder to keep balanced if you're leaning sideways, that's why you need to stay straight! Ugh--grab the handles!

[He has an idea but he needs Kano to do that first.]

[ It makes perfect sense to him, like a tightrope walker with their arms outstretched or carrying a long stick, distributing their weight across a further distance instead of all jammed up in one tiny motorbike seat where every little fidget has the bike careening this way or that.

As best he can, he stops fidgeting and grabs onto the handles, a death grip. ]

I got it!! Now what?!
