We're all heroes, then! [It wasn't really the reason Yuya fought, when he actually hates it... but compliments are compliments, even when he needs to give everyone else as much credit.

Yuya sinks back in the chair.] I'm just glad, I figured they wouldn't really hold the dance if it was going to be worse than that... even so, I hope next time we can get the party without the daemons.

[ Kano's still of the opinion they shouldn't have held the ball, or at the very least have moved it somewhere else if they'd known beforehand the exact time and place of the ambush anyways, and nothing that happened tonight changes that for him. ]

Hm, well... I wonder if we'll be so lucky to have daemons attack during midterms or something instead~ Attacking on a holiday, that's the worst! As expected of daemons!

[It's training. Yuya, for all he is, doesn't forget the reason they're really at this school--it means more to him than he usually says. But it's not a fun topic for conversation, and he'd usually be laughing with someone than bring them such a serious topic.]

They definitely wouldn't cancel midterms for a daemon attack. [Yuya sticks his tongue out and making a face. He hasn't even started studying for those.] I bet some of the teachers would make it part of their midterm! I think this should be worth extra credit.

[ It's training and it's why Kano hates being here so much it's almost intolerable, if it weren't for the two... maybe three or four or five, now, people who make him hesitate just hecking off to the other side of the world.

Also midterms are in literally four days, will Yuya be okay????? ]

Ugh, that'd be so stupid! I can see that, though, some sort of practical midterm... [ ... ] Let's not talk about this at night, or I'm going to have nightmares!

[Good question!!!

Yuya laughs, as he's been doing a lot of since drinking. He's in a good mood!] Okay, okay.

[Yuya props his chin on his hand like he's thinking of a way to change the topic. He didn't see Kano around after the daemon attack... but he didn't see Nana, either. That's something that might be too private for him to breach right now.] Tsuyukusa left before the end, right? I hope he got back before Toki went to bed...

[Yuya has no idea what Toki's really been doing all night.]

[ Kano needs some of that alcohol, if he weren't so concerned about what sort of drunk he is, and already has pounding headache that bringing Nana up definitely wouldn't have helped, so thank you for that judgement, Yuya. Tsuyukusa's also another problem, as he'd only caught brief glimpses of him and then nothing after the battle was over, although, granted, Kano did not stay very long at all once people started cleaning and he'd skipped out. ]

Hm~ Tsuyukusa's probably still super mad at me, huh? Toki had plans, I think, for tonight, but you came straight here to give this to me? Haven't gone to your room yet to see if he'd let the water overflow in some pissy fit?

Did he avoid you after that...? I'm sorry. [Yuya ducks his head sheepishly.] I guess I got in the way of what you were trying to do... I won't tell Toki, so... maybe we can make it up to him.

[He sure hopes he's not gonna soak the floor in a fit... but that's a problem for future Yuya.

He shakes his head.] It wasn't a lot longer, but I stayed to get the food, and dance some more... and there was some toast? There was alcohol, and I got kind of distracted with it! Most of it was too bitter. But the pink one was okay. And then I got the food and came here.

Haha, nah, by that time, he'd have gotten his medieval battle axe back— I forget what he called it— so I'd have steered clear away from him anyways!

[ A Tsuyukusa fresh from the thrill of battle? Not somebody he wants to confront, thanks. But he's glad he didn't stay, not having the appetite for food after the fact and finding alcohol only good for constructing molotovs. ]

Pity you didn't bring back any alcohol, though~ You liked the pink one? I wonder which one that was...? How much did you end up drinking, can you guess?

Uh... I only had a little bit of each one. It was mostly wine? And the pink one was a really sweet one--Rose! That's it!

[He snaps his fingers, pleased at remembering it.] Is it too late to go back for it? I guess it's too late...

[ Rose sounds like it'd look and smell nicer than it'd taste, but with enough sugar and alcohol it could be amazing. Kano hops off the desk and presses his face up against the window, trying to see if he can spot the auditorium from here, if the lights are on or if people are still cleaning up and taking things away. ]

Hm~ There's got to be a wine cellar around campus, right? So that even if we can't go back for it... we can always make a mission out of it, can't we?

Yeah, we can get some at any time. [They're both at an age that nobody in the school or town really seems to care. That probably isn't intended to be abused with "getting trashed" but asking for some wine, stealing a bit more than expected...

Yuya leans over in the chair, watching Kano for a moment before looking around his room to take everything in--on both sides. The decor, their personal stuff, whatever makes this room theirs. He's curious, and Kano's been in his room enough times.]

Hm~ Maybe we can celebrate the end of exams? Or drown our sorrows...

[ It might have to be the latter, although Kano's always managed to scrape by with passing grades- a miraculous feat, seeing as he rarely shows up to class- and he sighs to lean back on the desk. Its surface is disappointingly bare- neither of the desks have computers on them, the walls aren't decorated, bed sheets the standard ones issued by the university, there's nothing. There's a scary lack of anything in this room that hints at what sort of people live here, with the fact that people do live here evident only by the fact that the beds aren't made.

Ellie had come here with her entire life's belongings packed up in one cardboard box. Kano had come here three years ago with his entire life stuffed into a single backpack. In all that time, neither of them have gathered much, so Yuya can only assume what they own are hidden away, clothes in the dresser, personal belongings hidden away in the closet. ]

[Yuya pumps his fists in the air.] Celebrate another term of not getting kicked out for failing!

[He's not sure that's even actually possible, but his grades are looking just as sorry and he only barely keeps himself afloat in most classes. His mom reminds him every time to needs to take them more seriously.

He eases himself again as he properly takes in the bareness of the room--somehow even more devoid of things than Toki's side of the room, and a stark contrast to Yuya's array of belongings and mementos.

It makes him pause, and he looks at Kano thoughtfully.] Hey, hey. What did you have fun with today?

[Kano doesn't talk about himself much at all. Even in the privacy of his room, where is he hiding it?]

[ They used to be in his closet, and he never used to let anybody in. Now, he just carries everything on his person, the little amount he believes is important enough to warrant that sort of stronghold on while all the rest he throws away. ]

Today? Hmm...

[ Today was... honestly, it felt like the longest day of his life. Coming back to his room in the morning to find that card taped up to his door— he'd only later found out it was from Toki, after having made him cry and try to salvage that- that was before all those blind texts he'd sent out to so many people trying to get to the bottom of what'd be a wild goose chase, so that he couldn't figure it out even after roping Orihime into investigating the card in person. She seemed to be hinting at something, but he'd never found out... He got to hang out with Prompto too, before the party, got to infiltrate the building with Maverick after it'd started, shared a dance with Yuya, held hands with Nana, believed with all his heart that Maya was going to murder him, failed miserably in his plans with Tsuyukusa, got to talk with Michael more- which is always rare and he felt like he was going to vibrate out of his skin the entire time- and ]

Uh.

[ Was it fun? ]

I dunno if it counts, but... I got to play with lots of people today. So that was fun.

[ Maybe "play" isn't the right word, but he'd got to interact with so many people, didn't he? Made a right mess of things despite his best efforts, but his day was so full, though exhausting, and that's good enough. ]

[Play is kind of a weird word, that would set off more alarm bells if Yuya hadn't had the closet talk with Kano.

His head lulls further against his hand. He might be starting to come down from the alcohol.] You really do like talking to people, don't you?

[Kano says so little of himself, that Yuya's slowly started to find himself in the habit of looking more closely at everything he does, just to see what's there.]

[ He can feel the eyes on him and he really doesn't like that, the feeling of being scrutinized and picked apart like he's some enigma to be solved; maybe that's his fault, though, using his illusions for frivolous things like pretending he's got good, steady eye contact, confidence in his voice and in his steps, outwardly so much, so that nobody would ever care to dig around inside. He has no real tells, nothing with his hands or eyes or voice that isn't hidden and reconstructed- his speech pattern, exaggerated reactions, everything so carefully fabricated because he feels like he has to. Because he feels like Yuya can look all he wants for who he is, but the truth of the matter is, there's nothing there. ]

Haha, what kinda question is that?

[ Does he like talking to people? Yes. No. He doesn't know. It's hard to explain. ]

Doesn't everybody? People are so interesting, you know? They're really funny~ They're lots of fun!

Yeah. [Maybe it's not the question he means. It's that Kano's invested, enough to form elaborate schemes to protect Nana. To want to bring Tsuyukusa out of his jelly isolation--the way he seems to think about little details about people, notices them. Entertain Yuya's inane desires and questions, even when he thinks he's probably being annoying.

They're hard words for Yuya's alcohol-addled, tired brain to be piecing together. But he smiles with a fondness in his expression, glad to have found a friend in Kano.] You too.

[ There's a stupid amount of people he's invested in and he's convinced nothing good will come of it- but nothing good had come out of tightening his circle and letting nobody else in, so maybe he's just destined for nothing good to happen ever? Sounds reasonable, sounds like karma, the way Yuya tells him he's either funny or fun, and all Kano can think is that he's sorry he has to deceive Yuya into thinking he's any of that.

He mentally rubs his face with his hands, and laughs. ]

Pff- hahaha, look at that sappy grin of yours, Yu~ya, you're drunk. Come on, come on, I'll walk you back to your room, get on my knees and beg forgiveness from Tsuyukusa, and we'll call it a night~

I'm not drunk! [Yuya grins lopsidedly before moving to get up from the chair.] They didn't let me have seconds.

[But he won't fight being walked back to his room, even though he's sure he can handle it.]

[ He laughs again, and while the urge to sling one of Yuya's arms over his shoulders like he needs that amount of help is strong, he'll have to settle for guiding Yuya out the room and down the hall with a hand on the small of his back. ]

You can get drunk having the firsts of a hundred drinks~ I bet there were at least that many, weren't there?

[ Even if Yuya only took sips, those sips will add up! Especially if he'd never really drank before, that tolerance will get smashed in an instant, and if Yuya's in any danger whatsoever of throwing up, it needs to be not on this floor. ]

I wasn't counting. [But he's never really drank before, save a little sake at new year's, so it's true his tolerance is low. He nearly bumps into the doorway on the way out, but at least he's managing walking.

He does grab the railing when they reach the stairs, having to take those slower to avoid tripping.] Thanks.

You can say thanks after you get to the bottom of the stairs with your teeth still intact...

[ Stairs are the worst... He'd move his hand up just in case he needs to grab Yuya's collar, but then maybe he'd snap Yuya's neck by accident anyways, so let him just... link arms with Yuya, not as embarrassing as holding hands and he can justify that it's steadier. ]

[Yuya does stumble a couple times, but the combination of the railing and Kano's hold keeps him upright at least. At least it's only one floor...

He rocks forward like he's testing the ground when they hit the second floor.] Thanks!

[He said he could say it again... Yuya tugs as he turns down the hall, fishing his keys out of his pocket.

It takes a couple attempts to jam it into the lock, though. His coordination is still a little shot.]

[ ...Haha, he's such a dork.

Kano lets go and stands back while Yuya keeps stabbing the lock, he might break it before he manages to get the key inside the hole at this rate. ]

There you go~ You got it~ Turn to the left, now~

Aha! [He grins triumphantly when he gets the key in, twisting the lock and pulling the door open.

He fumbles for the light switch, but even without it, it's evident from the moonlight in the window that Tsuyukusa's tank is empty.

Yuya pauses.] Eh, he's not back yet either?
