[Hey, Kano. Did you know it's really noticeable when someone doesn't even show up to the dining hall all week? A little concerning, too. So hopefully you won't be too startled by the metallic sounding knock on your door...]
[ He doesn't think it's noticeable, because he hardly ever eats in front of anybody unless it's to go out and get something unhealthy that he doesn't even want. Kano isn't in the dining hall, and around this time of day he normally wouldn't be in his room either, if not for the circumstances around the disciplinary action.
Today he's in his room. He's not asleep, but he pretends to be, looking over at the door and waiting for a persistent 10 knocks before deciding to reward whoever it is by opening the door for once in his life— twist of the knob, door opens, and one large step backwards.
[He might have guessed it was Ziggy from the metallic tone of the knocking. He's holding a Tupperware full of spaghetti, and somehow not looking impatient about the wait.]
I noticed you don't visit the dining hall. Are you eating alright?
[ Kano glances down at the tupperware, then back up at Ziggy. Though he's taken a step back, he doesn't move out of the way or give any indication that Ziggy is allowed in his room; as of now, it's still a barren room, white walls and empty desk, a bearded dragon hanging out on the bunk bed. ]
Hm... Well, the dining hall is just so far, you know! Gotta go outside, and put on my shoes and everything~
[ As if he's ever seen without his boots, stomping around in them at three in the morning at times. ]
[ It's people giving Kano passes like this, that he takes advantage of their leniency and never bothers telling the truth when he doesn't feel like it. He hums a little under his breath, hearing that, a soft tuneless sound. ]
Heh~ How meddlesome! You're kinda like my own personal RA [ babysitter ] in that regard aren'tcha? Don't worry, don't worry, I'm eating just fine! I always make sure to eat when I'm hungry, after all~
[ The only problem is, he's never had much of an appetite for anything. He doesn't each often, and he doesn't eat much, because he's never hungry, too stressed to have an appetite and when he does eat, he feels a little sick from it. That's why little things like waffle cones and taco shells; everything else gets squirreled away. ]
[ That's an invasion of privacy!!! or something. Kano doesn't look very put out, hearing that, but he does hum again, eyes to the side. ]
I eat other stuff too? It's fine, it's fine, I don't get sick, after all! [ And he's not fat— quite the opposite, actually, short and skinny and he tries to hide that in the oversized jacket he always wears ]
Really, this isn't something you need to worry about? I'm eating just fine, and I can take care of myself.
[Plus whatever that spell he sees over you is about...unfortunately, he doesn't have the expertise to make sense of what he's seeing. He's never had to learn more than how to tell who a spell was going to target before.]
The effects of malnutrition are gradual. It's easy to not recognize them because you've forgotten what it feels like to be healthy.
[It's subtle, but there's a pained look in his eyes...as though he's personally seen that kind of misery before.]
[ The magic over Kano is always there, as if he wears it like a second skin. The third layer is that jacket with the infinite pockets he slides his hands into— if anything, that pocket on his left gives off a strong magical signal, but it's from a rune, in the end. ]
Haha, I wonder if I've ever been healthy in my life? There's so much food here, after all! There's no way anybody would starve with this much around~ Do you also eat at the dining hall? Or maybe you go out to town? I wonder if you can cook as well as Imelda can?
I usually eat in the dining hall, so I can stay close by in case of dangerous incidents. I can cook if necessary, but I don't consider myself a master chef. It's never been a particularly high priority for me, since I spent a majority of my time these past decades in areas where supermarkets aren't exactly commonplace.
Ohh, how disappointing! I was hoping to eat something home cooked~ I guess I'll just have to see if Nana-chan has any leftover banana bread she can spare! Gotta get my serving of fruit in for the day, right?
[ They go in salads and therefore they're a vegetable. Ketchup is a vegetable. Ketchup and fries is vegetarian and healthy. Let him believe these things.
Anyways, he lifts his hands and waves Ziggy out. ]
Come back soon, 'kay? Nachos are best when the cheese is still hot and melty~!
[ Apparently, he has no intention of coming with. ]

[And he'd confirmed with Kano's guards that he didn't just use the dorm kitchen...]

[He hesitates, a bit of awkwardness entering his tone.]
But if you'd like something freshly made, I do know of some diners in town.

[ That is... also sort of junk. But there's meat and dairy and guac is sort of a vegetable??? it's not but it's green and that's close enough ]

[It's not much, but...better than nothing.]

[ Please don't force him to eat spicy things, he'll cry. Like, literally. His nose will also run, and that's annoying. ]

[ He leaves the window open sometimes? That is enough fresh air. ]

If you come with me, I'll let you pick something else off the menu as well.
