[On Valentine's Day and well before the ball, Yuya's slipping around before and during classes for delivery. He'll try to give them to Kano in person, but if he fails to catch him before the evening he'll have them dropped off by his room.
The gift is a small bag of handmade heart-shaped milk chocolates he make at the candy workshop. They taste like completely normal chocolate. There's a little name tag, that simple reads To: Kano From: Yuya tied around the top of the bag.]
[ A lot of the day was spent running himself ragged here and there trying to get certain things done before tonight, but Yuya catches him at a good moment, lounging on the couch on the third floor lobby, furiously tapping away on his phone. Presumably, he's still trying to find out who his mystery card sender is, and is in the middle of interrogations when Yuya shows up. ]
[ He receives the bag in both hands, squinting at it a little before sitting up properly and holding it up to the light, as if trying to determine whether it's really real or if it's somehow fake. ]
I haven't gotten one of these since elementary school where they make everybody give 'em out so nobody feels left out~ I see, I see~ Your feelings have been received, Yu~ya!
[The bag is definitely real, if clearly all from the stock that was provided at the chocolate workshop. Having given up all his allowance, he couldn't exactly afford to go spend anything else for them. Might as well take advantage of being in a rich school.
His expression twists a little wryly.] I'm definitely not giving them to everybody. Just my friends and--almost friends?
[People he talks to a lot and gets along with. And one pity package.]
[ Don't mention pity packages bc then Kano would go "oh that's me" He's already trying to figure out whether he's in the "friend" category or the "almost friends," but one is just almost the other, and doesn't really matter in the end. ]
It's still a lot of people~ Most of the time, it's only just the one crush, isn't it? And maybe teachers if they're bribable.
[Yuya rubs the back of his neck and glances down shyly. He does kind of have one for that crush but will he admit that's what it is? Never.] Maybe? I guess we do it a little differently in Japan... I wouldn't be giving anything until White Day.
[He figured it out the first year he arrived, although he had less to give out even then.
Hm? I don't really know about White Day, so... What's that?
[ Despite the Japanese name and being able to speak and read it, it's American customs all the way, even if he side-eyes Valentines for as long as he can remember. Maybe because he'd never had a crush before, and therefore it wasn't relevant. ]
Hm, well--it's a lot like Valentine's Day. It's just that in Japan, only girls give out chocolate to their boyfriend, or crush, and their friends. On White Day, it's the guys who give them something in return. That's usually if a girl gave them something first, unless they're confessing something...
[He shrugs.] I guess in the West, all of that was done on one day anyway.
He~h, so it's on the girls to give 'em out first, huh? How convenient!
[ AKA he wouldn't have to worry about getting chocolates or giving any back, and the day would be just any other day, a relief. ]
If it's like that, I owe you something for this, don't I? I'm not too good at cooking, but I still have that griddle to make crepes with... I think Imelda was getting me grasshoppers.
Well, I'm not going to ask for anything. [Because asking is rude and it sort of defeats the gift, probably? It's not White Day, and Kano's not a girl.]
But, uh... maybe we shouldn't try making homemade inago again. [He has less faith in their cooking abilities after the last time.]
[ He hates feeling like he owes people things... He's also terrible with gifts all around, so Yuya's chocolates are being split even between Minako and Ellie, they can enjoy them in his stead. ]
Hm~ I thought it went pretty well? But one little hiccup shouldn't stop us! In time like these, we just have to find new recipes and keep trying~!
Haha, we might have to upgrade from socks to tupperware! I wonder if there's any in the kitchen we can round up... Because yeah, it'd be great if you could still gather up one of everything from the dance!
[ lmfao RIP his blankets, maybe he can convince himself he drools at night or something. ]
Hm~ You talked about it, huh? Well, come on, come on, spill the beans~ Is she expecting much?
[ Like. Does she expect him to be there the entire time, because he sort of has to be in 234095 places at once tonight, and his illusions are good but they're not that good. ]
[Yuya raises a brow, smiling softly as Kano presses--and probably misunderstanding the intentions a little.]
I don't think she's expecting anything other than you being yourself there. [Nana's the kind of person who welcomes and makes room for others. She didn't mention any lavish ideas, and Yuya doubts from knowing her that she's holding them.] I wouldn't worry, because I'm sure you'll both have fun!
... But if you want to be a little more impressive, you can't go wrong with flowers.
[ Haha, joke's on both of them, because Kano's never himself, ever. He hates that self behind all the smoke and illusions and that's why this is probably a mistake, if Nana ends up liking this fabricated persona of his. ]
Heh~ You really think so? Would red roses be too bold? Really, I didn't think you'd be so versed in how to make good impressions on dates! You surprise me every day, you know?
[Yuya laughs heartily.] I've seen it enough on TV! Since it's Valentine's Day, I don't think red roses are too bold at all... but if you think they are, maybe carnations?
[He considers himself and Nana close friends, but he doesn't really know how to woo her personally--and he's never known her to be involved with someone before, so this advice might be a little generic.]
Oh, yeah! [Yuya pulls out his phone, switching the keyboard language before searching in English 'banana flower'.
Which... just shows flowering banana trees, and those aren't terribly practical.] Uh, it's these big purple bulbs. Maybe instead, we should... [He changes his search request to 'banana shaped flower'.]
Here we go! This is called Jerusalem sage. [He butchered pronouncing that.
Yuya turns his phone screen to Kano so he can see. They look like tiny bananas.]
[ The big purple bulbs are very strange looking, and he doesn't know whether Nana would appreciate the authenticity of a banana plant flower, or if she'd like something more traditionally yellow banana-like flower instead. ]
It sorta looks like sourgrass. It's a weed, you know? Have you ever chewed the stems?
