Ask him if he wants cookies...?

[Nana, maybe, didn't follow. She drops the cookie cutter she was using to turn and look at him -- and then she smiles at him, thinking about this for a second.]

Hmm. He does get flustered about those things... it's funny, because it's Mav. He seems like the type who wouldn't, at first.

Right? Even though he's like that, he's such a kid~

[ From the right person, in the right way, he bets Maverick would be flustered about that too, somebody baking cookies for him. Kano goes ahead and gathers up the little cookie dough scraps leftover from cutting and sets those on the tray too instead of mashing them together to something large enough to cut another shape from it. The little pieces might burn a little, but that just makes them nice and crunchy. ]

[Nana laughs, then nods. She helps get everything on the tray -- cracking a smile at the way he puts the dough scraps there -- then tucks them into the oven, and sets the timer. She sighs, contentedly.]

Now to wait!

[ Now to wait... He's never actually watched the entire process before, so Kano crouches down in front of the oven with his forehead pressed against the oven door, peering inside and feeling the head against his face. ]

How long does it take? Cookies are really short, right?? Are we supposed to watch them to make sure they don't burn?

[She crouches down next to him, hands on her knees, and glances sideways. Nana shakes her head.]

About twelve minutes. A little less if you want them softer, a little more if you want them crispy.

We can watch them. I have a timer, but it doesn't hurt.

[ Kano shuffles over a little to give Nana some room so that he's not hogging the entirety of the oven window, but it's still barely enough room that they still have to sit side by side with their knees pressed together because he wants to see what's going on. He can stare at this oven for twelve minutes straight, no problem. ]<.small>

Hm~ I wonder which kind of cookies Mav likes? Soft ones are fun when there's something gooey inside, but crispy ones are better if they're going to sit out for a while...

I usually do softer ones, but... I usually sell out fast.

[Nana laughs a little, then she looks sideways at Kano, and tilts her head.] Do you think he'll leave them to sit for awhile?

Yeah? No way he's going to eat 'em right away!! He's probably going to find somebody to taste test them first~

[ If it were Nana's cookies on their own, his answer would've been different, but anything that Kano's involved in? Definitely a right idea to be cautious about it. ]

Then crispier may be better unless you want to tell him we made them together.

[...oh right because Kano might do something like put cayenne in them or something vile.

She's onto you, Kano. (She is in no way onto him.)]

Hm? I've told him we made them together! He won't eat them if it were just me?

[ But... Kano has definitely """spiced""" the cookies up. It's fine? They're not the ones eating them, after all. ]

Y-You mentioned he might want someone to test them first, and he knows I bake good things... if, um, not really always his style...

[i.e., sweet]

Hm, that's right, huh? He doesn't like sweet things, but he'll eat 'em if I make him!

[ aka Kano is a bully and Maverick is too nice ]

But he knows I know, it's fine, it'll be fine~ I just have to say you'll be sad if he doesn't eat them all? Then he's got not choice but to eat them!

[ No worries, Nana, no matter what they do, Maverick's not allowed to say no to earnest effort for his sake. ]

We shouldn't make him eat them, if he doesn't want to. But...

[Nana trails off, then she smiles.]

But if he wants to, that's good. And if he wants to save some for awhile, that's also good. I think our effort on his behalf will speak for itself.

[ Yeah they should make him eat them if he doesn't want to? Every other time Maverick and Kano go out to eat, it's Kano making him eat stuff he doesn't want to. ]

I guess we'll see.

[ He turns his attention back to the oven, pressing his forehead up against the glass a little. The dough had spread out a little? But not too much, yet, and he can't tell if they're browning or not, with the tint on the oven door. ]

I'm sure they'll turn out well, but if they're too sweet, we'll give them to Ramona! I bet she'd like them a lot too!

[Nana's watching the cookies over his shoulder -- as much as she can, with Kano blocking the way -- but doesn't seem concerned. She's baked a lot of cookies in her day. She has that practiced confidence.

She smiles at that.]

Ramona is... Mav's mom, right?

Yep, Mav's mama! Have you met her? You should come meet her~ I promised her your banana bread!

[ And then he/I proceeded to forget about this promise for half a year, but it was promised once upon a time. I think. Anyways, Nana's banana bread is very good and he's sure Ramona would love it too. ]

I never have, but I'd love to! I could bring her banana bread!

[She'd be so tickled to meet Mav's mom. Also give her bread.]

Okay! Next time I go visit, you can come with me and we can go and say hi~

[ Without Mav? Yeah, Kano just goes over to visit without Mav ]

[She... she just kinda assumes Kano will go with Mav, so...]

Just give me enough time to get some banana bread ready, okay?

[ She'll have to keep thinking that all the way until they're at Ramona's doorstep and not only is Mav not waiting for them inside like anybody would assume if he didn't come with them, but even Ramona wasn't aware they'd be dropping by because Kano didn't say anything. Hopefully she'll let them in anyways; Kano's been by enough times to know more or less when her free days are.

But before that! Cookies!! ]
