Tyzias is definitely the daemon in this capital C Contract, with Kano expecting a piece of paper and maybe a handshake to seal the deal, not an honest to goodness runic circle and signing his name in blood.
Blood? Really?
He holds his palms straight out and lets the fountain pen clatter to the ground.
"Wait, wait, wait-" he stammers, shaking his head emphatically and taking half a step back from the circle. "What's up with all of this? We can't go old school and base it off trust?? Can't we use ink instead of blood??"
WHY BLOOD. He's lost enough blood these past few weeks, every drop is precious.
"I don't trust you. And there's a precedent for blood, contains a lot of magical energy. Fuels the contract's power," Tyzias says, glaring at Kano. She was not taking any shit from him, not when she had the opportunity to stop the shit from coming from him in the first place. "Now. You want your gold or not?"
Not trusting him is fair, but even Kano's getting alarm bells about stepping into way more than he's expecting.
"Do I get to see this contract??" he asks, because that's rule number one about signing these things, right? Though he goofs off in contracting class, the real thing is staring at him in the face, and he's under the impression Tyzias can and will kill him off as soon as possible, unlike a daemon who often keeps their Contracted around for entertainment.
Also important: "You didn't forget the bag, right?"
With one hand, Tyzias facepalms hard enough that it's a wonder she didn't crack her skull. With the other, she... holds up a paper bag. That she then upends, and from which a mound of dirt almost five feet tall falls. She then points to the obelisk. "Contracts on the papyrus, dumbass."
If Kano takes a closer look, it reads as follows:
"In exchange for one (1) metric tonne of rune-transmuted gold, I, the contracted 鹿野 修哉, consign my ability to communicate verbally, through writing, sign language, or over any network to the students and faculty of Daybreak Academy except for the purposes of completing assigned work or requesting additional assignments, to the holder of the contract for the duration of one (1) Gregorian year, beginning when this contract is signed. Should I attempt to circumvent or subvert the terms of this contract in any way, or if this contract is annulled by its holder, any personal property obtained through the use of the gold provided to me by this contract will be repossessed by the holder of this contract, and any remaining gold will return to dirt. The holder of this contract may annul it at any time, and I bear all legal responsibility for the gold divested unto me, including any repercussions for selling it illegally, although the holder of this contract is still liable for the gold's creation.
He was sort of hoping for a cooler looking bag than a paper one that can be thrown away by accident at any point, but beggars can't be choosers, he supposes. He does take a read over the contract, though, eyes immediately crossing from all the tl;dr but alright, alright, let's see what we have here...
"Ugh," is the first thing Kano mutters, but that's because Tyzias went with his full Japanese name and nobody does that. He skims a little for questions to hold onto (what the hell is a Gregorian year??), but it's halfway through that he steps back and points a finger accusingly at the contract.
"Hey, isn't this kinda unfair to me??" It's this line here that he points at: The holder of this contract may annul it at any time. "So if I go on a spending spree, you can say "LOL Never mind!" whenever you want, and get all my stuff? All that time I spent shutting up won't get refunded either, right?!"
Tyzias looks at Kano. Drags her hands down her face. Decides that arguing with him about this isn't worth it. Snatches a piece of papyrus from an opening in a mechanical arm, begins copying down the contract. Then painstakingly removes the offending clauses, deanchors the contract over the course of two minutes, then anchors the new one over four. She's completely silent throughout, although she occasionally glares at Kano.
Oh- the fact that she actually amends the contract is surprising, and the actual process of it is a bit awe-inspiring as well, if not for the trickling dread that he's still probably getting the short end of the stick here.
Let him just nit-pick again--
"What about the bag of holding?" he asks, eyes darting to the paper bag and really hoping Tyzias could make a nicer looking one. Maybe a cloth bag, with long handles he can throw across his chest. "I get that along with the gold too, right? It won't disappear if I mess things up and the gold disappears into dirt?"
"Yeah. You get to keep the bag no matter what happens," Tyzias says, pinching the bridge of her nose. God, she couldn't wait to be done with this idiot's nonsense. Silence. Blessed silence. It was so close she could almost hear it. Well, metaphorically.
... "Are you going to etch it in stone?" he asks, meaning editing it into the contract JUST IN CASE WORDS AREN'T BINDING. Actually, while we're dictating edits-
"Also, can it be a cloth bag? The sort of bag that looks like a messenger back, that I can hang by my side for easy access~ Something durable, where- well, I guess weight has no bearing on an infinite bag, huh? Haha, that's really something~ Ah- another thing! Maybe have my name embroidered along the edge, I was thinking maybe if the bag were solid black, I could have my name in gold thread..."
Silence is almost here, Tyzias. But first you've got to endure all of this.
The only thing preventing Tyzias from reaching out, throttling Kano, and yelling incoherently in his face was... a lot of things, actually. Morals, responsibility, a handle on her anger. But if she didn't have all of those things, boy would he be in trouble. As is, her eye just twitches, and murderous intent begins involuntarily rolling off her in waves.
"I'll. Make you. The new bag. After. You. Sign. The. Contract," Tyzias hisses through her teeth as she draws up a third draft with Kano's requests included and goes through the whole process of anchoring and de-anchoring it.
Tyzias doesn't even bother glaring at him as she amends the contract one last time before anchoring it. "There. Added. You ready?" So close... and yet so far, considering the kind of person she was dealing with.
Tyzias stares Kano dead in the eye for several uncomfortable seconds. Then she sighs, gets out her phone, and begins tapping out a message before presenting it to Kano.
Kano has recently come into possession of a large quantity of pure gold. While the means of manufacturing the gold are dubious, rest assured that as the end user Kano is protected from any legal retribution for possession of the product, and attempting to prosecute him under the law would be laughed out of court at best and be deemed a criminal charge at best.
Tyzias just sighs and leans against the obelisk, waiting in the awkward silence. Almost as an afterthought, she touches the back of the phone case, and it burns into ash in a bright teal flame. "I have to admit, I'm curious. Why the fuck did you actually agree to this?"
So he's not off the hook that easily, huh... It's alright, he'll huddle a bit closer to the tiny flame, as if he'd get any warmer from it.
"Hm? All the gold I could possibly need, and a bag I can keep whatever I want in? Why wouldn't I agree to this?" he asks, voice carefully level— not a rhetorical question, but it's just that. It works in his favor. Why wouldn't he agree?
"You're trading away your ability to talk to any of your friends for an entire fuckin' year because of a shitty meme," Tyzias says, deadpan. Then she sighs and shakes her head. "Then again, considering that fuckin' abomination you suggested for theater club, maybe I shouldn't be surprised." To be fair, this was enough money to destabilize a small country, so maybe it really was worth it.
It's not really a big deal, if Tyzias is assuming Kano has any great number of friends. It's a thought Kano keeps in the back of his mind, along with what exactly he needs that amount of money for— not a motorcycle, not anything immediately tangible like that- and he doesn't feel the need to explain anything, laughing when Tyzias brings up the script he'd written for the theater club.
"People seemed excited for that play, you know?" It was a good thing he'd brought it to Nana first, considering how excited she is for theater in general; she was a good person to back him up. "I was kinda surprised how many people didn't recognize it, too~ But if they think it's fun, it's fun, and who are we to get in the way of that? For people who don't recognize the meme, it's just something fun?"
Tyzias opens her mouth to protest... then promptly closes it, sighing and leaning against the obelisk. "Yeah. Fun. Right," she says almost wistfully. "Haven't really had any of that in a good while." At least now she wasn't dumping all of her positive emotions on Twozias, so she was actually capable of having this "fun" the other students spoke of. It was still difficult to actually enjoy having fun instead of regarding it with a suspicious distaste.
"...fuck. Sorry about... all this," she mutters. "That. Whatever. And being an asshole."
Ohhhhhhhh nono no no no, don't dump sorries on him, the admittance that she isn't having fun, things that Kano doesn't like dealing with and hates being faced with because that means he's doing something wrong- would have signing the contract without a fuss have prevented any of this? sounds too little too late, so he stoops to pick up the pen he'd dropped on the ground and... doesn't sign anything, just sort of slips it in his pocket and waves his hands in front of Tyzias' face as if his voice isn't enough to distract her.
"No, no, don't say that! An asshole- I never thought that, you know!?" He wants to clap his hands down on her shoulders? That's a bad idea, and he shoves them into his pockets instead. "I got to see lots of cool stuff today, after all~ This whole contract thing, the bag, the runes! It's incredible, isn't it? I think it's incredible, what you can do!! You wouldn't do all this if it weren't a little bit fun, right?!"
"I did all of this because I need to study Contract magic to get a better understanding of the Condescension Histories and it was a good opportunity to actually get you to shut the fuck up. Which, uh. I'm kind of regretting now. Since..." she sighs, kicking her feet. Feelings. So not worth it. At least she could generate some friendliness now--enough so she could feel miserable about trying this in the first place. "Fuck. You actually seem like kind of a nice guy."
Kano has no idea what (who?) the Condescension is, which might have not been a problem if he actually went to class and spent his days sitting quietly listening to lectures instead of running his mouth enough that paying $8000/month to shut him up sounds like a good deal to some people.
"Eh- Is that a problem?" he asks, taken by surprise, because being a nice guy... no, no, Tyzias didn't say that, she said kind of.
"It's only 'kind of,' you know! I can be pretty mean too! Ah- hmm, that's not something to brag about, is it? Haha~ But if it's shutting up, you can always tell me to, without a contract?"
For whatever reason, that actually manages to get a chuckle out of Tyzias. She really was an idiot. So, so many of her problems could be solved if she actually bothered to spend some time talking to people instead of just trying to brute force everything with runework.
"Alright. Fair enough." After a moment, Tyzias extends a hand for Kano to shake. "You wanna just let this whole fuckin' stupid thing go?"

He has to make sure, because it's not set in stone. Yet. The idiom doesn't really work, when Tyzias can do the whole de-anchoring thing.
