[Toki doesn't want to to risk going up to Kano's room and encountering any more guards, but it's better than Kano getting caught down on the second floor.]
Hold on!
[He leaves the closet and returns with his desk chair. He stands on it and motions for Kano to get out of the way. It will be easier without his help.]
[ He should feel a bit put off by Toki's sudden barrage of surprisingly good ideas, but as Kano sits back and makes room, he can't help but feel kind of proud about Toki using his head and not immediately going for whatever Kano suggests.
A chair. Yeah. Nothing says "Hey, look up at the secret hole in the ceiling!" like a chair in the closet. They'll find some way to get rid of the evidence. ]
[Maybe the taser made something re-route, who knows? Though he's not at all thinking of the obvious evidence of leaving a chair under the hole. After getting up into Kano's closet, Toki doesn't really know where this is going.]
[ He hasn't thought that far yet, but he's good at thinking as he goes, pushing the cardboard boxes over the hole as best he can without it falling through after Toki's up and out of the closet. Best if they don't stay here, either. ]
[ Today is the day!!! They're going to be hunted down tomorrow anyways, so they might as well get a head start. Kano's got a pocket full of tea bags and Toki has money, so he's not worried about this plan at all, bounding over towards the window and sliding the pane open and making sure his """fire escape""" is still there.
There it is!! He hopes it holds. He made Maverick tie the knot, so it'd better hold. ]
...You first~ I'll keep an eye out, and will be right after you!
[Toki doesn't have any money with him, and none he has access to if Kano didn't take his wallet. That's where all his identification and bank account numbers are. Toki leans out the window to look at the fire escape. It should probably hold.
He climbs out the window and starts going down. At least only Yuya occupies any of the rooms below. It's very convenient, though visions are not. Toki loses his grip before he's gone down very far. He doesn't scream as he falls, because he's unaware it's happening... The streets of Soleil are crowded with kistune; wearing traditional clothing and swishing their fox tails in unison. They all turn to look at him, tilt their heads and scream... He's looking at the sky for a second and then there's the impact and he sees nothing.]
[ Aw, fuck. How can Toki screw it up so badly?? Kano hurries out the window after him, ignoring the burn against his hand as he lets himself slide instead of climbing down hand over hand, because from all he can tell, Toki just sort of let go, like a dumbass, and the moment his feet hit the ground, Kano pushes off them and over towards Toki's side. Is he dead? Fuck. Fuck. This is prime time to use a Hieke sigil, but Kano is also a dumbass and grips Toki's shoulders and does what you're not supposed to do with somebody unconscious and that is shake their shoulders so that their head flops around a little. ]
Hey! Hey, Toki!! Wake up!!
[ Fey magic, if there is one time to work, it would be now. Work work work work work—- ]
[Toki won't wake up. He's dying. Good job, Kano. Shaking him is an absolutely bad idea, considering he has a dislocated shoulder and severe head injuries. Blood spills from the back of his head, a laceration and a cracked skull. There's subarachnoid hemorrhaging, blood seeping into the space around his brain. He's bitten his tongue nearly in half and may also be downing in his own blood. Several vertebrae are cracked and his tailbone broken. One knee is dislocated, the kneecap pulled to the side awkwardly.]
[ His vision blurs, but maybe that's for the best, so he can't see all the blood when he pulls his hands back red and hot and shaking. He can't die. He's not allowed to die. Fuck. Weren't the guards supposed to prevent this sort of thing? Keeping an eye on Kano because he's a bastard Contracted who cannot be trusted and this is the reason why.
Breathing heavily, Kano wipes the tears off his face, smearing blood across his cheek in its place, and holds Toki close, trying to hold on as much as he can. He studied for this. For this exact reason. He learned about the nervous system, tried to understand pain. Blood. Cells. Healing, health, it was supposed to help, make things easier and effortless like the illusions were to him, but maybe he's just good at pretending and is shit at making people feel better, it's all he ever wanted to do, keep the people he loves safe, and he can't--
It hurts.
It feels like dying.
He can't die. Everything hurts. Toki can't die. He has to save him. Somebody has to save him. ]
[His breath is coming in ragged slow gasps, blood splattering out of his mouth with every shudder of it. If Kano can feel his heart, it's slowing down, an occasional hitch every few beats. After a moment, he stops breathing altogether. Death is perhaps a freedom in its own way.]
[ Toki passes away and everything hits Kano all at once— overwhelming pain, overwhelming grief, sorrows and regrets and anger and shame and
he's screaming, he thinks, but he can't hear it. He thinks those are footsteps making the ground rumble beneath his knees, and there's the fleeting thought that he hopes it's the guards. There's the sight of the ground pitching forward— him pitching forward onto the ground. Darkness.
The guards take the two of them away. Surely... Hieke is not the only person in the school capable of revival magic. ]

So... what are we doing?

We're going out the window.

[Maybe this is it. They'll be free. Kano said they'd run away one day. Today is the day.]
